Eight Steps for Weight Loss Success!

1. Set Goals For Yourself

Let’s say that your goal is to lose 50 pounds. Great goal, but it is going to take a while to reach that goal. It took a while for you to put on the weight, and it is going to take time to take it off.

Setting mini-goals for yourself allows you to feel as if you have accomplished something. For instance, perhaps your goal for Monday is to avoid dipping into the candy dish at work. For Tuesday, maybe it is to enjoy a one mile walk. Accomplishing small goals everyday while shooting for your big goal of losing 50 pounds will make you feel as though you are taking steps in the right direction.

2. Visualize!

Visualize yourself thin. If you cannot visualize, then maybe think about how it would feel to walk into a department store and trying on some slim fitting outfits and having them fit.

3. Forgive Yourself when you Get Off Track

We are all going to have times where we all short of our plans with a weight loss program. They key is to avoid banging your head against the wall and think you are a diet failure. Nobody ever got what they want by feeling guilty! Forgive yourself, pick up and get back on track as soon as possible.

4. Get Moving!!

Before beginning any exercise program, consult your doctor. Exercise does not have to mean joining a gym or buying expensive equipment. It can mean taking a walk around the block, parking at the back of the parking lot, or taking the stairs. Look for ways you can increase your exercise level in your daily activities.

5. Take Responsibility for Yourself

Barring a medical condition that requires you to be under the care of your doctor, there is only one person who is responsible for your weight: YOU. Take that responsibility and realize there is only one person who can take it off: YOU.

6. Reward Yourself

Reward yourself for accomplishing those mini-goals. Think about things you like to do, but often don’t have the time to do them. Perhaps your reward would be to buy a new book you have been wanting to read. Maybe it is taking an extra long bubble bath or getting a massage. Think of ways you can reward yourself for a job well done.

7. Let Go of the Emotions Attached to Your Weight

Many people attach emotions to their weight and to food. If you eat when you are upset, angry or even happy, find ways to express those emotions instead of through food. This may be through exercise or through simply talking them out. Emotions are meant to tell you something. Instead of stifling your emotions with food, ask yourself, “What is this emotion trying to tell me?” Hypnosis is a very effective means of helping you overcome emotional issues with food.

8. Make Time for Yourself

Find time to spend with yourself. Get in touch with yourself through journal writing. Examine your goals, your life, and take steps to make positive changes. Turn off the TV and read an empowering book for an hour each night. Trade the time you used to spend watching television to work on your dreams instead.
